Motivation

You don’t need motivation, you need physics!

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by our daily tasks and chores especially when working all week.  It’s often difficult to find the motivation to finish everything in the little free time we have.  But you don’t need motivation, what you need is physics!

Newton’s first law of motion can be described as, an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.  The longer you procrastinate the easier it becomes to continue procrastinating just like an object at rest.

It’s time to set up an unbalanced force, this could be as simple as having a scheduled time each day to take the initiative or could also be as simple as giving yourself until the count of three.  This doesn’t mean that you must complete that project or chore in one go.  The important part is to just start.

Folding/hanging laundry is a great example for this because it’s a task that’s easy to fall behind on.  There’s no need to put all the clothes away immediately, if it’s one load, just settle for finishing a quarter of it.  If you’re buried under a mountain of clean, unfolded clothes, then settle for 10 or 15 items at a time.  Just start putting away more than you place in the dirty bin.  It will take some time, but the next time you start there is already less to do. Today’s the day to become an object in motion.  You’ve got This!
